The Greater San Antonio Healthcare Foundation was formed in 1996 under the auspices of the Greater San Antonio Hospital Council as a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization. The Healthcare Foundation has served the South Texas region's hospitals and healthcare systems through the administration of such successful functions as:

• File of Life Program . emergency medication card notification system
• Red Ribbon Week . keep kids in school and off drugs
• Nursing Faculty Funding Program . matching grant program by Methodist Ministries Foundation
• Robert Wood Johnson Grant, STAND . South Texas Acts for Nursing Development

The Hospital Council Board of Directors recently formally committed its full resources over to the Healthcare Foundation to extend its role in serving the community, especially in areas dealing with healthcare workforce issues.
